The 88th Founder’s Day of S. Thomas’ Preparatory School which fell on the 17th of May was celebrate with a Thanksgiving Service on 18th May 2026 at the the Chapel of the Good Shepeherd at Prep School.
The Thanksgiving Service was celebrated by the Bishop of Colombo, The Right Reverend Dushantha Lakshman Rodrigo, together with the Headmaster, Revd. Fr. Nihal Fernando, and the School Chaplain, Rev. Lakshman Daniel.
In attendance were the former Headmaster, Mr. N. Y. Casie Chetty, and the Warden of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, Mr. Asanka S. Perera.
The S. Thomas’ Preparatory School Old Boys’ Union extends its sincere thanks to the Headmaster for inviting the OBU to be part of this special occasion.

Jeyaraj, and I, being old Preppites, as fellow scribes in the early eighties, me at the SUN / WEEKEND, and he at VIRAKESARI, travelled the length and breadth of the North East, covering JRJ's first ever Presidential elections, sharing rooms in homes where hotels or rest houses were non existent, and he was like the older brother to me, introducing foods I never had and the big surprise was the juicy Chavakachcheri ripened Jack fruit. Super dry sense of humour was our coded way of being sarcastic about the politicians we accompanied and whilst officially we were on an election coverage, we met many of the leaders and operatives of the various militant groups, from PLOTE, TELO, LTTE, and others who Jeyaraj had networked and educated me about the aspirations and the unresolved issues and the different alignments that separated each faction. Jeyaraj as a younger journalist was mature like a seasoned journalist even then, possessing tremendous wisdom and insights about how the fledgling conflict would pan out with the Indian involvement at that time with training camps run by RAW. Parthasarsthri was one of the key advisers to Indira Gandhi at the time and he played a key role one year later after the dreaded 83 riots took place, and Jeyaraj s prophetic words came to pass in the ensuing years with the rise of the LTTE. RIP my friend. You were leagues above the rest in your domain.

Vivek, a distinguished product of Prep School, previously served as School Captain at S. Thomas' Prep School in 2023.
During his time at Prep School, Vivek was awarded the prestigious J. T. R. Perinpanayagam Gold Medal for Best All-Round Student and the W. T. Keble Memorial Prize for English Language.
