S. Thomas’ Preparatory School – Rugby Jersey Presentation 2026 🏉
It has been 50 years since rugby was introduced to S. Thomas' Preparatory School.
Since its introduction in 1976, Prep School has produced several players who have distinguished themselves at S. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia (and other schools), with some going on to don the Sri Lanka national rugby union team jersey.
To celebrate this milestone, a special ceremony was held this morning to present the current pool of players with their jerseys.
Alumnus Asanga Seneviratne, who captained both Prep and STCML and went on to represent Sri Lanka, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He has also served as the President of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) and currently serves as the Chair of Asia Rugby.
The event was also graced by Jivan Goonetilleke and Ashean Karthelis, both of whom have represented Sri Lanka, along with Harin Gabriel, a past Prep ruggerite.
Jivan played for Prep and captained the 1st XV at STCML before going on to captain the national Under-20 team and represent Sri Lanka.

The remains will lie at his residence (No. 23, Walauwatte Rd, off Galpotta Rd – Ratnajothi Mawatha, Koswatte, Nawala) from Wednesday, 18th February 2026 at 9.00 a.m. Last rites will be conducted at 4PM on 18th of February 2026 at the General Cemetery, Borella (Anglican Section).
